Rathi Raja

Rathi Raja is one of the founders, and the Executive Director of YICG (Young Indian Culture Group, Inc.). She is the head of the department of Vedic heritage classes and Bhagavad Gita classes for Adults offered at YICG for Long Island and Queens students at Herricks, New York.

Rathi is fluent in Hindi, Tamil and English, and has a keen interest in the versatile Indian culture, and Hindu epics. She established YICG in 1993, helped by Urmila Shivaram and Runi Ratnam, both Long Island doctors.

As a storyteller and educator, Rathi uses her teaching experience to share the knowledge of the rich spiritual heritage of India with Asian Indians and people of other cultures in NYC. She is especially focused on sharing this knowledge with the younger generation.

Vedic Heritage Classes

As a teacher, Rathi Raja uses the Vedic heritage classes to help her students establish a connection with their Indian heritage and religion. The classes are based on the 10 year “Vedic Heritage Teaching Program” introduced by Arsha Vidya Gurukalam incorporating these subjects:

  • Values
  • Culture
  • Vedic knowledge
  • Upanishads
  • Bhagavad Gita
  • Isvara and religious disciplines
  • Gods & Goddesses
  • Bhagavata Purana.

Bhagavad Gita Classes

The Bhagavad Gita Classes for Adults, conducted for free, help students develop wisdom, grow mentally and spiritually, and learn values beneficial for their existence. Rathi Raja adopts teaching techniques such as chanting/reading of the Gita, word meaning, discussions, and summaries and interpretations to make a success of the classes.
